Pirates Of The Burning Sea : Pirates of the Burning Sea Previews Career Skill TuningJan 14, 2009 10:56:40 AM News Item: 7740
Over at the official Pirates of the Burning Sea website, the creators have posted up their new skill tunes and tweaks for gamers to discuss and churn over. In general, it looks like Buccaneers and Privateers are seeing the most change. Here's a breakdown:
1.12 contains a variety of changes to career skills. These changes are based on a combination of your feedback about the careers andstatisticsabout how the skills and careers are getting used. There’s a theme to the changes for each career:
* Buccaneers: We want to make their group skills more worthwhile and give them more active time in combat with less cooldown cycling. This means they gained some reload rate, improved Command skills, lower reset timers and loosened skill use requirements.
* Cutthroats: They’re close to where we want them, but there are a few areas where they can use some improvement. One of those is the general lack of damage resistance, and another is a couple skills that aren’t very useful.
* Freetraders: This milestone doesn’t have many changes for Freetraders, as most of our plans for them are longer term.
* Naval Officers: We’re making a set of changes to help Navy with their speed and morale issues.
* Privateers: This class is seeing the most varied set of changes. They’re gaining better spike defense and improvements to a variety of skills. We’re also planning some chain restructuring down the road.
These may change between when they hit testbed and when we take them live. Feel free to provide feedback now and after you give these changes a run on testbed! Here’s the tentative list:

Pirates Of The Burning Sea : 2008 wasn't a good year for MMORPGsJan 12, 2009 10:00:00 AM News Item: 7803
Filed under: Culture, MMORPG industry, belief
One of the blog posts over at the Hellforge community that is getting some traction is Agamemnon's look back at the MMORPG failures of 2008. Included are looks into why Tabula Rasa, Hellgate: London, Age of Conan, and Pirates of the Burning Sea either outright failed (in the case of Tabula Rasa and Hellgate) or were unable to get the subscriber numbers they expected with their commencees.
What separates this blog post from the myriad of other posts on the same subject is that the article ends with the many things that these games all did wrong and other creators should learn from. Little things, like listening closely to the feedback from your beta testers, fostering a community, and learning to stay away from the model of "we'll patch it to perfection." It's a good examination of the many failures of other games, and a kind tip of the hat to the things an MMORPG can do right, such as Mythic's openness with Warhammer Online.2008 wasn't a good year for MMORPGs Mon, 12 Jan 2009 10:00:00 EST. This will all be accomplished through an extensive process of removing redundant crafting items in provision making and ship building, plus a readjustment of how insurance will work. What do you do with all of those obsolete items in your inventory? Luckily, they've created a merchant who will turn any obsolete good into its base raw material. Check out the lengthy developer log for complete information on what they plan to change.Pirates of the Burning Sea's economic stimulus package Sat, 10 Jan 2009 10:00:00 EST. Comments
