Combat level is a rating on how powerful a player or NPC is in combat. Players enter in combat by right clicking their opponent and selecting the "attack"
option. Fighting is automatic and will continue until they have killed their opponent, die, or leave the fight by running away or teleporting.
RuneScape does not require players to choose a class and players are not bound to a specific category of combat.
Players die when their
hitpoints are reduced to zero. Lost hitpoints can be recovered by eating or drinking. Potions and prayers are used by players to boost combat ability and
defences. Character that die will reappear at one of the respawn points with their hitpoints and skill levels restored. Dieing can be costly as the character
will drop all but their three most valuable items. Theese dropped items form a gravestone, and the items can be retrieved if the player is able to return
before the gravestone dissipates. Longer lasting gravestones may be purchased, fellow players can also repair or bless a gravestone to make it last longer.
PvP CombatDuel Arena's allow players to fight each other in combat. Duel Tournaments allow up to 64 players to set up tournaments gold as a prize
for the winner. Dueling is available to all charcters but tournaments are members only events. Duels can be for fun or staked. No items are risked In a
friendly duel while up to 3,000 gold or equivalent items can be staked in staked duels. Defeated characters reappear outside the arena.
Clan Wars is
another option with player versus player capabilities but clan members may battle each other only. Clan battles end when every member of the opposing clan
is defeated. Defeated characters do not lose items when they die.
Castle Wars offers group pvp rather than individual combat to seize the opposing team's
flag as many times as possible but has less rewards.
Fist of Guthix is one player versus one player and is available to members and free players. Characters are tasked with hunting and killing their target or
are being the target and attempting to survive. Players do not lose items upon death. Characters are rewarded with a rating based on their performance and
tokens which can be spent on a variety of items.

together. There are four types of quests which are based on requirements and difficulty

the skill. New quests are released each month. Rewards for quests depend on the difficulty and include gold, access to new areas, unique items, increases in
skill experience or quest points.
Economy
RuneScape's economy is based on items produced using skills or the collection of raw materials. Raw materials can be collected with extracting
skills, such as mining or fishing and can be refined using other skills such as smithing and cooking or are sold as is to other players or
stores. Some players engage in merchanting to turn a profit by buying and re-selling items however pricing of merchandise is limited and is basically
controlled by Jagex. Killing certain monsters for loot can also be profitable.
