The Lord of the Rings Online LOTRO is a massively multiplayer online role playing game MMORPG MMO set in a fantasy universe based upon J. R. R. Tolkiens Middle earth writings. It takes place during the time period of The Lord of the Rings.
Deeds
LOTRO Characters obtain titles and traits by completing deeds. Deeds can be achieved by completing tasks such as killing a number of monsters, using a certain ability a prescribed number of times completing a certain number of quests within given time period, locating certain locations or finding certain unique items.
Character Classes
- Burglar - Using concealment, a Burglar can strike from the shadows, taking his opponents unaware. A Burglar's combat style relies on his ability to out maneuver and outwit opponents while hitting them where it hurts.
- Captain - A Captains battle cry allows them to take advantage of certain events in combat to aid the morale or combat ability of their fellows. A Captain's style of combat focuses on inspiring those around them to glory and is a respected fighter on his or her own accord
- Champion - A true master of arms, Champions excel at combat, focusing on little other than destroying their foes. They can use various weapon styles and even duel wield if they wish to. They can cause large amounts of damage to both single and multiple opponents in combat. They also believe that the best defense is a good offense.
- Guardian - Guardians are masters of the defensive arts. They use lethal attacks and taunts to draw and hold an opponents attention while depending on their shield and weapon to block and parry incoming attacks. They are masters at creating openings during an opponent's attack which provide the opportunity for a counter attack.
- Hunter - Hunters are woodsman, pathfinder and master of the bow. They can use bows with devastating effect but are weak in melee combat. Their cleverness with use of traps and snaring their opponents provides them with time to use their bow.
- Lore-Master - Lore-Masters are healers and buff artists. They can heal their allies while providing them with buffs to enhance their combat abilities. They can also inflict harm or hinder the enemy with their lore putting the enemy at a disadvantage.
- Minstrel - With a vast repertoire of tales both fair and foul they are able to restore the morale of their fellows while causing enemies to despair. They are able wield weapons but are not effective melee fighters.
Traits
LOTRO characters have the ability to equip traits earned during the game. These traits give characters a number of different bonuses or abilities. Any trait combination can be equipped so long as they have enough trait slots which depend on the characters level.
Virtue traits improve resistances, stats and total morale and power, including regeneration.
Class traits improve the power of certain abilities and give additional passive bonuses to character statistics.
Racial traits are specific to each race which confer special abilities or improvements
Legendary traits confer rare and powerful bonuses.
Professions
Lord of The Rings professions consist of gather or crafting. Gathering professions are used to gather raw materials which are used for crafting.
- Cook - Cooks create food which can be consumed by player characters to recover morale and power when not in combat and give temporary bonuses to stats. Cooks also make lute strings which reduces a minstrels' threat. Materials for Cooking are harvested by farmers.
- Farmer - Farmers harvest crops which are used by the cooking profession. Seeds are required to grow items. Farmers also provide scholars with rare harvests used to make dyes and straw and they also make traps for hunters.
- Forester - Foresters gather and work scattered wood. They are also able to treat leather found as loot from animals for use by a tailor.
- Jeweler - Jeweler can create jewelry which confers benefits to the wearer, such as increased stats. They also craft hope tokens and Jeweler for champions. They get their required gems and metal from prospectors.
- Metalsmith - Metalsmiths craft heavy armor and shields made of metal and obtain their materials from prospectors.
- Prospector - Prospectors mine ores, gems and salts. They smelt ore into metal ingots, which are used by weaponsmiths, jeweler and metalsmiths.
- Scholar - Scholar is a combination of both harvesting and crafting. Scholars decipher lore found near ruins. They use lore items and other ingredients to make potions, bow chants and scrolls that give other crafters a better chance to produce items of higher quality. They also make dyes from plants, animal organs and mineral salts.
- Tailor - Tailors can craft light and medium armor. Light armor requires cloth which may be purchased from vendors while medium armor requires leather which is gathered by foresters.
- Weaponsmith - Weaponsmiths craft weapons such as axes, swords, and maces. They also produce traps for hunters, tricks for burglars and shield spikes for guardians.
- Woodworker - Woodworkers make wooden weapons such as bows, spears and hammers as well as other crafting components needed by other professions. They require treated wood which is harvested by foresters.
