Dungeons & Dragons Online Game Overview

Game

DDO is set inthe continent of Xen'drik in the world of Eberron. Characters are created using the revised edition of D&D 3.5 rule-set fashion and can be played in both indoor and outdoor environments and a large variety of dungeons.
DDO contains numerous changes from the D&D tabletop game. Most of these changes were introduced because of differences in the dynamics between the media of computer game combat and tabletop gaming. DDO uses a real time combat engine where D&D uses a turn-based system. This brought braught on alot of changes in combat, character skills and feats and other situations where it was felt that the turn-based combat system and real-time combat did not mesh well. 

Some noticeable differences are:

• Increased amount of hit possibilities
• Increased spellcasting rescources over rest periods
• Spellpoint system instead of spellslots
• Magic items are underpriced
• Magic weapons and armours have only two abilities
• Characters have higher stats 
• Offensive effects created by characters will not harm their allies

Most of DDO is set in the city of Stormreach which is a giant scaled city built many years ago and has been recently settled by humans. Stormreach has several areas such as the Harbor, Docks, the Marketplace and the four Dragonmarked Houses - House Jorasco, House Deneith House Kundarak and House Phiarlan.
Adventures can be undertaken beyond the city walls into other lands such as Tangleroot Gorge, Three Barrel Cove, Threnal and Sorrowdusk Isle, each having adventures of their own.

The plot of the game revolves around the following dark plots:

• Giants attempting to regain mastery over the city of Stormreach and the continent of Xen'drik
• Minions of Khyber attempting to gain power over Xen'drik
• Cultists attempting to reopen the gate to Xoriat

Mechanics

The standard party can have up to 6 players while Raid parties can have twelve players. Characters gain experience by completing quests and Killing monsters.
Players may choose to play solo and DDO features solo dificulty based dungeons and quests. A more typical party will consist of multiple characters filling roles such as fighters, rangers, paladins, barbarians, wizard, clerics, bard or rogue.

There are 5 servers for the US market named after various geographic aspects of Eberron. There ate 2 European servers. Characters are transferable from server to server via a request form. There are currently no servers for the Oceania market.

Quests

DDO quests are organized by character level, length and difficulty. Each quest has a base level and the XP reward increases if all of the party members are below that level while they decrease if any of the party members are above that level. Players who are more than three levels below the base are not permitted to initiate a quest but they are able to join a quest started by other party members.

Most quests have an item or monetary reward when completed. Some dungeons require several visits to the quest giver in order complete the them. Quests may be repeated

Difficulty levels

There are four difficulty levels for quests:

• Normal
• Hard
• Elite
• Solo

Hard and Elite levels increase the XP bonus the first time the quest is run at the given level, and usually provide a more challenging experience to the characters. The quality of the loot in the chests in hard and elite quests is better as well. The highest level quests usually offer the best loot

Solo quests offer very little loot and very few special items.

Features

• DDO includes a built-in voice chat
• DDO is an instanced game, where each party receives a private "copy" of a dungeon for their own use.

Classes

DDO Offers nine playable classes without any race restrictions. Players choose a class to begin with and are not limited to remaining in that class. Caracters can gain up to 16 levels in 3 classes

The available alignments are:
