Even the hardiest of heroes might feel a chill heading into an area infested with voodoo practitioners. Then again, if you are meticulously fond of all things dark, you might find these floating voodoo dolls to be ridiculously cute and want to go there if just to snap one up for yourself. In either case, with Champions Online enjoying its anniversary currently (and the game on sale to boot), we're glad to see a screenshot from there. Today's ooky-spooky (yet strangely cute) image comes to us from Sarah, who is also known as @Adilinaria in game. She writes in to explain: "This is my main, Jacqueline, on Champions Online right before I hit level 40. The substence in Vibora Bay is definitely what I consider to be the most unique of anything within CO. These voodoo doll sigil stones are the perfect example! See you in Vibora Bay, ladies and gents!"
For some, it's all about soloing. For others, it's all about grouping. Still others prefer a bit of both! We'd love to see screens of your favorite MMORPG, if you'd like to send them to us. Just email your images in to us at oneshots@massively.com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description of what we're seeing. We'll do the rest. Easy!

When the lands of World of Warcraft are torn apart in the upcoming Cataclysm invasion, will you be ready? Well, if you're like today's intrepid adventurer, at least you'll be able to clarifythose once-upon-a-time places to the next generation thanks to nifty screenshots. This area from (soon-to-be) old Azeroth is tucked away from view but is wellworthy ofthe trip, if just to see it once. Today's contributor, David R., writes in to explain: "I was questing in Un'Goro Crater with my girlfriend when we entered a cave to accept a crystal collection quest. I have always actually enjoyed this cave but have never taken screenshots of it. I thought it would be more than appropriate, as Cataclysm may destroy this cave and its glorious crystals!" We might actually still have some of those crystals cluttering up our banks, come to think of it. Too bad we won't be able to re-create this cavern with them.
Hey you! The one who loves MMORPGs! Yes, you. Have you sent in a One Shots image to us? If not, you should! It's easy to do. Just take an fascinating screenshot of your favorite MMORPG and email it to us here at oneshots@massively.com. Be sure to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. We'll post it out here and give you the credit!

Cabal Online : Gameforge buys majority stake in FrogsterAug 03, 2010 08:00:00 PM News Item: 14929
Filed under: Business models, MMORPG industry, News items
MMORPG business news isn't normally as sexy as the latest press release from BioWare or as divisive as the newest F2P conversion pronouncement. That said, occasionally an industry-related story comes along that indicates something equally big is in the water. Today's pronouncement of Gameforge's bid to take control of noted free-to-play publisher Frogster seems destined to turn a few industry heads, including ours.
Gameforge, which heretofore has specialized in smallish F2P games like Cabal, has just acquired a 60 percent majority holding in Frogster, the German publisher known primarily for distributing Runes of Magic. The purchase deal went through at $33 US a share, which places Frogster's overall value in the neighborhood of $85 million US. Frogster, and now Gameforge, is looking to grow its portfolio not only with Runes of Magic but also by publishing the forthcoming Mythos dungeon crawler as well as by securing the European publishing rights to the highly anticipated TERA action MMORPG from Bluehole Studio.
The Gameforge folks have been busy little bees this summer, as they earlier announced an agreement with CBS to publish several browser-based games centered around the Star Trek intellectual property. Gameforge buys majority stake in Frogster Tue, 03 Aug 2010 20:00:00 EST.

While yesterday's One Shots featured one of the sad stories from 2009 -- the loss of a game some found home -- today's shows off something old-school, yet cheery. For those who may not be familiar, this is a screenshot from Dark Age of Camelot, the game that many feel is the game for challenging and fun realm vs. realm action. This image comes to us today from Casey, who writes in: I know you guys don't cover much about Dark Age of Camelot but here is a screen from me letting you know there is still life and fun to be had in the game. As far as the picture goes, I just made a Cabalist and moved on to a new zone.
From old-school to new school, we love to see your images! If you'd like to take part, all you have to do is email your screenshot to us here at oneshots [at] massively [dot] com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post it out here and give you the credit.

Cabal Online : The Secret World reveals new game trailer, factionsSep 03, 2009 01:45:00 PM News Item: 11771
Filed under: Horror, Video, MMORPG industry, New titles, The Secret World The Secret World is Funcom's next MMORPG that they've kept under lock and key for quite a while now. Despite all the secrecy, we know it's a modern day setting with heavy overtones of the occult and mysticism. Past images released for The Secret World have shown shambling, twisted corpses walking through a town. There was also a Cthulu-esque scene of a thing-that-cannot-be-named obliterating city streets, a lone woman wielding a katana facing off against it. They've told us that gamers will form cabals to uncover mysteries and deal with supernatural threats. Still, there hasn't been much to go on.
What Funcom reveals about The Secret World at PAX in the coming days will be "the biggest thing on TSW yet", but apparently secrets just want to be set free. We came across a YouTube video of The Secret World's second trailer (embedded below), with a shotgun toting girl tracking some monstrosity that can scatter its form into a murder of crows. You can also see the trailer in high res that's part of an exclusive on the Norwegian site Dagbladet.no. Plus, they've got eleven new screenshots and bits of model art up on their site as well.Continue reading The Secret World reveals new game trailer, factions The Secret World reveals new game trailer, factions Thu, 03 Sep 2009 13:45:00 EST.

So, with expansions, you said that you'll be starting out with New York, London, and Seoul, right? Yes. Those will be the first cities, the hub cities, obtainable at the start of the game. Now, the gameplay takes you beyond that, yes? Oh yeah, absolutely. We're not doing all New York, or all of London, or all of Seoul. We are actually doing very tight and very constrained neighborhoods there. That's where you'll start your gameplay, but they won't be the large, enormous open zones where you have tons of gameplay or tons of monsters. That will be left to areas like Egypt and New England, which will be more expansive and include more open-world mechanics and other things that we're not revealing quite yet. We will also be including more instanced and team-based areas as well. Regarding expansion packs, yeah, we're going to expand beyond what we already will include. It's not like we're going to run out of substence, the world is a big place. Yes, I was going to ask if it will expand into more scenes and cities throughout the world. Yes, it certainly will, but it won't be limited to just that. We have more fascinating scenes but they won't be limited to just our world. We will be including scenes throughout time and space itself. I want to emphasize that this won't be something like Grand Theft Auto with magic, with a spotlight on enormous, enormous open cities. They are reasonablyshortplaces where you will start out and take the adventure from there. But one very important thing to note is that this sounds like a very fragmented world. London, New York, Seoul, those cities are a long way away from each other. But we are creating, or at least trying to create, a pretty seamless world. This means there are ways of getting from London to New York very quickly, and we are spotlighting on that. You won't be just walking up to a plane, clicking on it, and getting a red line that quickly points to where you're going and boom, you're there. You will be moving in real-time from London to New York, just a lot quicker. There's alot of traditional MMORPG components that are around now. We're kinda in a new generation of MMORPG, and citizens are tired of World of Warcraft model and they're looking for something new. This is certainly in that realm. Are you guys trying to get away from traditional models, like crafting, and moving to something new? Ah, I can't actually talk about crafting right now. What I can say is that while combat is a core spotlight, we actually want other non-combat stuff in the game. We're just not going to be talking about them as of yet. But there will be gameplay that isn't all about fighting monsters or exploring. There will be other things that you will be able to do. Like you said earlier, like mysteries? That, yes, that also and there will be other ways for citizens to play in the game, to participate in the game, that isn't about traveling around the world. Exactly what that is, I can't say as of yet. Now, will there be a gamer driven economy? Well, I can't speak much about that now, but there will be ways for gamers to take part in the economy. Sorry for being so cryptic, but trying to keep this very spotlighted and very narrow for now. And gamer guilds? Ah, we are going to have cabals, yes. There will be a point to making cabals, and it will play a very large role in the game, but exactly what that is I'm not going to say as of now. We are a game and we are spotlighting on the social aspects of the game. We are, in some aspects, a story driven game and alot of it you can play solo, but we actually want to emphasize that it is an MMORPG. There will be stuff that will require you to team up with citizens inshortgroups and also in larger teams, without me going into deeper detail. I hate having to keep saying I can't talk about this stuff. Oh, so what about in-game factions? ...and I can't talk about that. *laughs* Ok, so what about the range between hardcore and casual? Yeah, well, we always say we're going to cover all of it, but the fact is that you can't the game for everybody. So I think we're leaning towards... *sighs* I wouldn't say the casual, because when you talk about MMORPGs and casual you usually end up at Club Penguin or something like that, and we're actually not there. We're somewhere between halfway, I think. There's tons of stuff for the hardcore MMORPG gamers, like the whole skill based system and the tweaking that you do to those types of systems with numbers and all the items we'll have, and that will be a hardcore gamer's dream. But I think in terms of time investment and what's required of you, we're leaning towards the middle ground. It will be fun for MMORPG gamers, but it will be equally fun for someone who just likes the idea of a world that has a bunch of other citizens in it, is completely open, you can play it online, and you can chat, but doesn't feel so unfriendly and unwelcoming as other MMORPGs. So, would your target audience be someone who has played MMORPGs? I think a large part of our target audience is who are playing or have played MMORPGs. We want it to be different enough for them to come back or a game that is different enough to have them come to play it with their friends. In addition to action/adventure gamers who play games like Fable 2 for the Xbox 360 and just want to try their hand at something that's online and not feel completely eliminated and have something that's recognizable to them.
We'd like to thank Ragnar for meeting with us at the GDC, and we're looking forward to more information on The Secret World! GDC09: Interview with The Secret World's creator, Ragnar Tørnquist pt. 2 Tue, 07 Apr 2009 09:30:00 EST.

It appears as the time draws nearer for the Choppa and Slayers to be added in, the seemingly good-natured smack-talking in Warhammer Online is starting up. We got a little hint at it earlier, but today's One Shots can't be construed as anything other than a warning, as today's contributor Crushedskull from the Cabal guild on the Badlands worldputs it: This screenshot was taken at an Elf Warcamp, on a Waaagh tower. Most of the Warhammer Online community is stoked for the introduction of the Choppa and the Slayer. This is just my little message for anyone thinking about to rolling a Slayer. Too bad you and those crazy Dwarves with the explosives aren't on the same server; could make for a hell of a screenshot!
One Shots is in need of your screenshots - (polite) smack-talking welcome too! Send them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com. Add your name, the game it's from (guild, worldand description welcome too) and you're set! I'll give you a cookie for sending one in.
