Filed under: Fantasy, MMORPG industry, Tales of Pirates, Free-to-play, Kids For the first time in a long while, we've come across a tale of digital wrong-doing that doesn't involve internet spaceships and is definitely not allowed by the creators. The game in question is Tales of Pirates published by IGG. Apparently a number of the game's gamers have fallen victim to a trick, and IGG wants to publicize this to make citizens aware of the scam. There's a brief warning on the official Tales of Pirates site about account security, but they just put out a press release that's far more detailed.
IGG writes: "As with any popular game, IGG's Tales of Pirates has attracted its share of scammers. Even the most careful pirate can sometimes be fooled by a well-executed scam. The best way to avoid becoming a victim is to learn the common tricks scammers use. To help gamers, the ToP would like to highlight one meticulously popular method used in recent times." We can only hope they emailed the full info to their gamerbase, but we'll keep our own take on it short and sweet here -- five steps to violating the Tales of Pirates EULA and getting banned (and of course, what to watch out for.):Continue reading How scammers plunder your Tales of Pirates booty How scammers plunder your Tales of Pirates booty Sat, 04 Jul 2009 12:00:00 EST.

Regarding recent controversy on IGG’s forum over online publishing rights for Tales of Pirates the ToP team (http://top.igg.com) from IGG has released an pronouncement concerning the issue.
Recently reports have been coming in from ToP gamers about websites allegeing to have obtained the online publishing rights to Tales of Pirates from the game developer Moliyo. Here and now both IGG and Moliyo would like to state jointly that these alleges are completely false.
The copyrights to the online game Tales of Pirates belong to its developer Moliyo. IGG signed an agreement with Moliyo to secure the exclusive online publishing rights for North America. The only other company to secure online publishing rights for ToP was Sing-Gium who secured the rights to Southeast Asia for their game - Pirates King Online. Moliyo has never licensed any other English versions of the game to anyone. If any gamers come across a company or an individual allegeing they have secured the rights to the game or permission from Moliyo they are infringing on Moliyo’s copyrights and committing fraud and they will be punished.
